How do I configure my router/firewall for Jive phones?

For your Jive phones to work properly and consistently, your firewall/router must allow the following with respect to the Jive phones:

  1. Persistent NAT connections (system sends NAT keep-alive every 60 seconds)
  2. HTTP over port 80
  3. UDP on ports 5060, 5061 (SIP). Multiple connections must be allowed over these ports.
  4. All internally-initiated UDP connections on ports 10,000-65,536 (RTP).
  5. UDP on port 123 (NTP).

In a broader sense, the phones need to be able to initiate outbound TCP and UDP connections to arbitrary IP addresses on arbitrary ports. Any type of white-list-only configuration on the router will not work.

Most business-class firewalls can be configured to allow certain devices on the local network (phones in this case) make these connections, but restrict others (computers, etc.) at the same time. Ask your network administrator for help setting this up.

In most cases, the phone initiates these connections from within the LAN.
